The past 20 years have seen a rapid increase in digitization, the internet of things and the onset of e-waste - an issue that expands as technology integrates across the globe. In 2016 the world saw 44.7 million metric tonnes of E-waste go to landfill, equal to 9 pyramids of Giza or 4,500 Eiffel Towers. Now the industry faces a new challenge, the withdrawal of support for Windows 7 in Jan 2019. There are 48 million computers still running on Windows 7 in North America. Where will they end up when they get replaced with new Windows 10 computers? In recognition of this issue we created the CO2Neutral™ program. Understanding that when disposing of IT assets Corporate Data Security is a major concern for organizations, our programs are based on the promise that we securely transport, handle and wipe all data bearing devices. The CO2Neutral™ program was designed as a solution for organizations who feel handcuffed by their End-Of-First-Life™ IT assets. Our program, through the remarketing of IT devices, is able to provide premium dollar value to organizations disposing of their hardware. In finding a second market, or second life, for IT assets we are able to drive back the residual value of End-Of-First-Life technology to our customers. We consider this found money and we suggest that the organizations we work with donate those funds to charity, to date we have diverted over 1.5 million assets and helped raise over $3 million dollars supporting 141 charities across Canada. Through the creation of a unique protocol with the Canadian Standards Association we are now able to generate carbon credits through the resale of refurbished technology. CO2Neutral™’s verified Carbon Credits are then provided back to our customers as they turn in their End-Of-First-Life technology. In an age where limiting your carbon footprint and giving back to the community is being mandated by consumers, our program offers an innovative, value-add solution.
